How large is the park? What types of wildlife are found there? What kind of recreation is present? Have you ever visited in person?

This week we will understand our impact on National Parks, and what we should be doing to preserve them. National parks can be a controversial topic, so make sure that you keep your post and your replies respectful!

For this week’s initial post:

Find a National Park : https://www.nps.gov/findapark/index.htm
Choose the state in which you reside, or if you are deployed, one that you have visited or are interested in visiting. There are a lot of parks, so make sure you choose one that is different than your classmates and use it in the title of your post.
Recall that this is a biology class, therefore please select a park that allows you to discuss the wildlife and ecological and economic advantages as your priority.
Discuss:

How large is the park?
What types of wildlife are found there?
What kind of recreation is present?
Have you ever visited in person?
What are the ecological advantages of the park?
What are the economic advantages of the park?

List and describe factors employed by the organism to assist in its growth, reproduction, culture conditions, host/pathogen interactions and/or virulence.

Lyssavirus rabies

You will pick a microorganism for your paper on pathology or microbe-environment interactions. The organism cannot be one of the ones listed in the syllabus. Select a pathogen/microbe from current events that is an emerging or reemerging concern to you or people in your area. Provide local epidemiological data/statistics for the organism. Your topic DOES NOT need to be approved by the instructor

Your paper must include:

Introduction to the organism
Introduction to the disease(s) caused by the organism OR introduction to the environmental impact of the organism
List and describe factors employed by the organism to assist in its growth, reproduction, culture conditions, host/pathogen interactions and/or virulence.  Categorize virulence factors by mechanisms of action
Discussion of treatment/prevention options for the disease(s) caused by the organism

Determine that the source article you chose is academically and scientifically credible, explain how and why your source article is relevant to your course project’s required topics and subtopics, and list those sources in proper APA reference format .

BIOL180 Assignment 1: The Annotated Bibliography

For this assignment, you will use the “species” you chose for the Week 2 Mini-Presentation.

The Annotated Bibliography is included as part of the Course Project because it provides the first step in the preparation of your Outline and Final Presentation. One of the issues regarding research, especially in the biosciences, medical, health/nutrition, and exercise/fitness fields, is the credibility of the sources used, particularly those obtained from various websites. By challenging you to carefully evaluate each of your potential sources, the Annotated Bibliography helps you to:

Determine that the source article you chose is academically and scientifically credible,
explain how and why your source article is relevant to your course project’s required topics and subtopics, and list those sources in proper APA reference format .
Before You Start:

How does that information compare to recent peer-reviewed experiment or literature review on this topic?

Choose ONE topic: motivation, emotion, or sex and address the following questions :

o Identify and briefly explain the primary structures in the network of regions that control human motivation, emotion, or sexual behavior as identified in your textbook. Include what functions each region is thought to control and end by explaining what was most surprising or seemed most interesting.
o How does that information compare to recent peer-reviewed experiment or literature review on this topic?

If you report on an experiment, begin with a description of the research study, its hypotheses, methods, key results, and most important results. If you report on a literature review, identify the main relevant findings. Last, explain how these results compare to our text.

Evaluate the source by explaining why it is or is not an academically and scientifically credible source of information.

For this week’s initial post:

First, decide which species you will choose for your Course Project topic.
Next, select only ONE article from a source of biology information from the open web or the Trefry Library.
Use the name of your article and its source as the title of your initial post.
1. Evaluate the source by explaining why it is or is not an academically and scientifically credible source of information.

A. Provide a minimum of three pieces of evidence to support your thoughts and state if they are green or red flag examples.

Some evidence to consider are the credibility of the author as a subject matter expert, the quality of the reference sources included in the article or lack thereof, the credibility of the publisher or website, etc. Review the Source Evaluation Cheat Sheet.

Create, share, and discuss an educational infographic and supporting 1-2 page handout that educates the general public about a neurological or psychological SENSORY, PERCEPTUAL or MOTOR disorder of your choice.

Sensory, Perceptual, or Motor/Movement Disorders: Educational Infographic and Handout

Part of science is communication with general audiences. For this assignment, you will create, share, and discuss an educational infographic and supporting 1-2 page handout that educates the general public about a neurological or psychological SENSORY, PERCEPTUAL or MOTOR disorder of your choice.

You must create a scientifically accurate yet publicly understandable infographic and accompanying handout suitable for a general audience.

Evaluate the source by explaining why it is or is not academically and scientifically credible and provide the source’s reference in APA format.

PPT- North Carolina Black Panther

In week two, you will select one source relevant to your chosen species from the open web . You will evaluate the source by explaining why it is or is not academically and scientifically credible and provide the source’s reference in APA format. If you determine that it isn’t a credible source, you will not use it for your Course Project
Assignments.
Assignment 1 – Annotated Bibliography
The Annotated Bibliography will help you determine the credibility and relevance of reference sources you may consider using for your Outline and Final Presentation assignments. See details about this assignment located in the Assignments link

Describe what was done to carry out your laboratory experiment and list the equipment.

ENSURE THAT YOU CONFIRM DETAILS FOR YOUR RESEARCH TOPIC WITH THE MODULE TUTORS AND PROVIDE A LIST OF REAGENTS TO THE LABORATORY MANAGER.

The following sections need to be included within your report:
To be concise and reflect the factual content of the paper.
Provide a rationale, aim and hypothesis for your choice of topic.
Provide the wider background and context of the experiment; a review of current and up to date scientific knowledge on your choice of topic should be included, in which credible sources should be used and cited.
Describe what was done to carry out your laboratory experiment and list the equipment.
Provide data collected from conducting laboratory research in a table and/or graph format and include statistical analysis. All tables and figures should be appropriately labelled and referred to in text and all presented results should be contextualised in the main text prior to their presentation.
