What do you think is a fair solution here?explain and support your answer based on your knowledge of copyright and your close reading of this article.

The Beastie Boys v. GoldieBlox
The Authors Guild v. Google
Shepard Fairey v. The Associated Press
Based on your knowledge of copyright and your understanding of the surrounding implications that I articulate above, discuss for each case whether you think the outcome was favorable — and explain your reasoning for your position. You don’t necessarily have to agree with the legal outcome. For example, I would tend to disagree with the legal outcome surrounding Google and the Author’s Guild. To support your discussion, please explore books.google.com, please locate images of Shepard Fairey’s artwork, and please listen to/watch the Beastie Boys’ “Girls” and the GoldieBlox spot.

The article “What’s a Fair Share in the Age of Google” articulates another problem entirely, involving news organizations and how they fail to get compensated in an age of aggregation and search engines. What do you think is a fair solution here?explain and support your answer based on your knowledge of copyright and your close reading of this article.

NEW York Times

Instructions for this Activity

In undertaking this activity, we are looking to recognize how news organizations are using innovative communication practices in order to both succeed as businesses and maintain their central mission of informing the public. We also want to analyze these practices as a way of understanding how these organizations are finding new ways of communicating with the public. All of you within your group should engage in thorough analysis of your news organization across platforms: print, television, online, social media. Even though these are print and television networks, they still seek to engage audiences and platforms online.

It is imperative that you gather information quickly, monitor the discussion often, and post as soon as possible so that the leader can post the video presentation on time.

Required Questions:

Is this, in your collective mind, an objective news organization? Explain through examples.
Does this news organization, in your collective mind, serve the public interest in a healthy manner? That is, does it provide information that is in the best interest of the audience and that promotes healthy engagement in civic life? If so, how? If not, please articulate “the problems.” These can range from sensationalism to clickbait to bias to outright misleading or questionable information. Remember: It’s ok to have a news mix that offers hard news and soft news , but news should also be like a doctor-patient relationship, telling us what we need to know about our community or the world.
If you could make any changes to this news organization and the way in which it delivers information, what would it be?

Why do professors make students complete an annotated bibliography? To give students a hard time and task-master them to death?

Why do professors make students complete an annotated bibliography? To give students a hard time and task-master them to death? No, of course not. It’s not just an assignment in and of itself; it is an important step in the research process. Your first stage was choosing a topic and doing some tentative research. Now you are going to find several relevant sources and provided a summary and evaluation of them. This is the topic you chose in Module 3, and this work will culminate in your final research project in Module 7.
An annotated bibliography is a listing of sources compiled from research that you will use in your completed essay. However, the “annotated” part shows that it is not only a list, but an elaboration and evaluation of your sources – that is, you express, in a paragraph, two things: that you understand and can encapsulate the source and that your source is relevant to your topic and approach. Your reading for this module includes a guide to annotated bibliographies. Be sure that you have read the information at that link before you proceed.

Briefly explain how these concepts might be useful in improving your communication in that area.

Assignment 2 Chapters 3,5,6 of book
Using the same professional or personal area you chose for the mid-summative assessment in Module 03, choose at least one concept from Modules 04, 05, and 06 and briefly explain how these concepts might be useful in improving your communication in that area. Again, your paper should be about 1 page in length and you will use this information in your final project paper for Module 07.

Introduction
You are contemplating going above your management team to bring something that you feel is being overlooked to the attention of those higher up, maybe even the press. The issue matters enough to you, and you feel your management either won’t or isn’t in a position to do something about it.

Hopefully, in your current work environment, you’re in a collaborative enough place that this kind of situation doesn’t come up. But it’s common in many different types of organizations, and it raises all kinds of questions, not just about ethics, but how you go about communicating, too.
