The UN’s sustainability goals – how can the construction industry contribute?

Use sources
THIS IS OUR RESEARCH QUESTIONS:
How can the building industry contribute to achieving the UN’s sustainability goals?
Which of the UN’s sustainability goals are relevant to the building industry?
What are building contractors working to achieve the UN’s sustainability goals?
What consequences does the building industry have when implementing the UN’s sustainability goals?
What measures can help reduce CO2 emissions from the building industry?
What measures are the authorities taking to make the building industry more sustainable?

2. Society perspective
• Put the task in a larger context
• If, for example. looks at the use of “new” materials for load-bearing systems in a construction, then you can write about the environmental problems surrounding building materials
• The theme will be linked to the UN’s sustainability goals
3. Knowledge background / Background of knowledge
Clarified, relevant and sufficient knowledge background to shed light on the problem area. Calculations always have a theoretical basis to be presented. If standards or regulations are used, this must be presented. There may also be some common practice .
What has been done by similar research / work in the past?
Do not include theory that is not used in «results and discussion».
It should have a clear connection, and at the same time a natural transition, to the researcher question

How can BIM support tacit knowledge management/capturing in construction projects?

How can BIM support tacit knowledge management/capturing in construction projects

How can BIM support tacit knowledge management/capturing in construction projects?

BIM helps to capture and share knowledge within construction projects. The process provides tools to use and re-use explicit knowledge, develop information classifications, and create a framework by which explicit knowledge can be codified and structured. However, there is lack of clarity on tacit knowledge capturing through the BIM process. In this task, you need to discuss how BIM can be practised to capture tacit knowledge in construction projects. The discussion can include:

1.Tacit and explicit knowledge diversity in design and construction phases
2.Tacit and explicit knowledge management in building information modelling
3.Information modelling tools and techniques for capturing and sharing knowledge in projects.

Critically evaluate the specified manufacturing capabilities of the selected machine(s) against a quality criterion that fulfils the manufacturing requirements of parts and components.

Investigate and develop the use of Additive and Direct Digital Manufacturing with Vestas Blades.

This project will identify and discuss the various types of Additive manufacturing materials and processing machines and their suitability and limitations of being used within the wind turbine manufacturing processes.
A number of these will be discussed for their ability to produce metal and plastic parts, The potential to be developed into a digital manufacturing system and finally linking multiple production sites to a central database.
A recognised testing criteria will be assessed, and a written report produced demonstrating the suitability to be used for measuring the production quality of the manufactured components.
The final objective is to deliver a solution for the manufacture of small parts using Additive Manufacturing technology at Vestas sites located globally. A follow up report discussing the potential for the manufacture of larger parts and the recognised limitations of Additive Manufacturing.

Learning Outcomes

1) Interrogate technologies and specifications that are outside of my normal working environment and select from these a solution for the manufacturing processes, demonstrating that the theoretical can be developed into a practical solution.

2) Critically evaluate the specified manufacturing capabilities of the selected machine(s) against a quality criterion that fulfils the manufacturing requirements of parts and components.

3) Design a system and global network that enables the printing of parts and components at number of global locations within the Vestas network, these components being localised in a central database.

4) Write a technical report to key stake holders supporting the introduction of additive manufacturing as technology with growth potential within Vestas, including the potential for upscaling to larger parts and the associated risks.

Describe the use of zero-finding methods and integration techniques in analysis of complex systems. Describe the significance of numerical methods.

Zero-finding methods and integration techniques in analysis of complex systems

Suppose you work for a company who is both designing and optimizing processes. They have developed a probability distribution function that is a derivative function. Finding the zeros of this function give the maximum and minimum while the integral gives the actual probabilty of a part failing in the process.

Describe the use of zero-finding methods and integration techniques in analysis of complex systems. Describe the significance of numerical methods. Describe the algorithms used and show code that you’ve written to highlight these solving methods. Use the example equation below as motivation in your description.

You will write a technical report 2000 words Tolerance on this given task taking into consideration of the following key features:
1) Identify all the major sensors / probes that are found on a modern aircraft engine.
● List each sensor / probe and give a brief description of its function.
● Describe in your own words, the purpose of each sensor / probe, and how these are connected to allow the engineer to assess the serviceability and need for preventative maintenance.

2) One of the main control systems on a GTE, is the FADEC.
● Provide a suitable example of a FADEC system through literature survey, describe its function and how this is used by the engineer to determine the serviceability of an engine.
● What other modern system is used on a civilian aircraft engine to monitor all the engine parameters. Explain in your own words, how this works and what are the advantages of your chosen system.

Illustrate your circuit design using a schematic diagram and simulate your circuit design using PLECS.

This assignment is designed to enhance, and allow you to demonstrate, your power
electronic design and analysis skills. Using either a Buck-Boost or a Fly-back Converter,
student will be required to design a circuit to control the speed of a DC Motor by supplying a
voltage in the range from 30V to 60 V to the DC Motor. The input to the converter is supplied
from a 50V DC power supply. The power rating of the Motor is 1.5 kW. Students will need to
design the converter, produce the mathematical calculations to justify their design, and then
choose commercially available components to meet that design. The code to activate the
switching device of the converter is to be written in pseudo code.
Students will be required to simulate their design using the PLECS electronic software
simulation package. Please contact Dr. Yapa to obtain a student license.
Task:
You need to do the following things:
1. Design a circuit to meet the above specification.
2. The students should make necessary calculations for diodes, transistors, inductors, and
capacitors.
3. Illustrate your circuit design using a schematic diagram and simulate your circuit design
using PLECS.
4. Choose commercially available components for your design, and adjust your design for
these none ideal values if necessary.
5. Document your results in a report, and submit your report and demonstrate your design.
