Review the data compiled by the NFPA related to structural fire causes:

Is the interaction between Jacobs and Norcom about race and power or gender and power?

Slave Language of Truth

Abolitionists supported slave narratives for obvious reasons, but how can we know the formerly enslaved were writing the truth? After all, slaveholders believed slaves to be lesser humans whose emotions and intellect were not fully developed; they couldn’t love or grieve in the way Whites did. Plantation owners believed slaves were dependent on owners for shelter and food. So, how did language of slave narratives change that perception? And, how do we know what happened to people, really did happen? Check the list summarized from an article by Charles Nichols for The Phylon Quarterly. Compare that list with the excerpt you’ve assigned to read to decide if Jacob’s narrative is true. You don’t have to, but you may want to use Olney’s conventions too—and the conventions of memoir. Do you think the idea of writing about past life experiences was evolving?
You may want to consider the interactions Jacobs had with her master and mistress. Think about what Jacob’s story tells us about the corruption of power. Is the interaction between Jacobs and Norcom about race and power or gender and power? If any of this rings true for you, you can use it in your essay. From chapters 1,5, & 21 500 words

What does he or she want? What conflict does this character encounter? How do they attempt to get their desire? What prevents them from achieving it? Does the character change or grow?

In this short essay, be sure that you have the following: an introductory paragraph with a statement, at least one body paragraph with supporting reasons, examples, and quotations from the play, and a concluding paragraph. The statement should represent your main argument analyzing the character you have chosen.

Brainstorming Questions
You may use the following brainstorming questions below to generate ideas if you like. It is fine to continue with your character analysis that you started this week in the discussion area for this essay assignment.

Choose one play, and select one character from that play. Consider these questions as you think about your character: What does he or she want? What conflict does this character encounter? How do they attempt to get their desire? What prevents them from achieving it? Does the character change or grow? What is the resolution by the end of the play for this character? After thinking about these questions, develop your  statement.

How do the words the character says reveal information about who he/she is? Does the character have a noticeable speech pattern? Does the character’s use of language reveal his/her emotional state? What is revealed through what others say about the character?

Choose ONE PLAY to discuss. Then, choose ONE CHARACTER to discuss. In a well-developed paragraphs, discuss the character, analyzing elements such as the person’s actions, conflicts, and motivations. Include examples and at least one quotation from the play as supporting evidence.

Remember to provide evidence for your claims in the form of examples and at least one quoted passage from the play. Quotations, paraphrases, and summaries should be cited according to APA style, including in-text and reference citations. Check grammar and spelling before posting. Post directly to the discussion; do not attach a document.

Instructions Goal: Complete a Final Reflection that Demonstrates Skills Practiced Over the Semester

• Demonstrate your ability to apply the knowledge and skills you have developed throughout the semester in a final, thoughtful reflection paper.

• You will explain how you would turn your Informative Research Report into a multi-modal text.

• Demonstrate the ability to make formal writing choices for college-level writing situations.
This assignment asks you to re-imagine your final Informative Research Report in a new mode, for a specific audience and rhetorical purpose.
For example, you might explain how an informative report on rock climbing could be made into a short video on safe climbing practices for beginning climbers, or how an informative report on teen pregnancy could be made into a podcast about access to birth control and information that would appeal to a teen audience.
Your reflection should explain how you would transform your informative research report by specifying: -a new intended audience -a new rhetorical purpose -a new medium .
