Define causality as it relates to experimental design and experimental results. Define in your own words and use the terms ‘independent variable’ and ‘dependent variable’ as part of your definition. Provide an example of data results where there is a causal relationship between the variables in an experiment.

Scientific nutrition

Explain how the independent variable relates to the dependent variable in an experiment.
Explain how a controlled variable is different from an independent variable.
Define correlation as it relates to an observation. Provide an example of data results where there is a correlation between the variables.
Define causality as it relates to experimental design and experimental results. Define in your own words and use the terms ‘independent variable’ and ‘dependent variable’ as part of your definition. Provide an example of data results where there is a causal relationship between the variables in an experiment.
True or False: A hypothesis statement does not need to mention the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. Explain the reasoning for your answer.
(C) For each of the three nutrition research scenarios below, provide the following information in your own words:

Do you consider the practices observed in the film necessary in order to maintain or elevate the health of the general population via the final products provided?

“Farm to Fridge” or “Slaughterhouse Made in France – Certified Organic”

FILM MAY BE CONSIDERED EXTREMELY DISTURBING
Watch one of the following films :
“Farm to Fridge” (  .
“Slaughterhouse Made in France – Certified Organic” (

Upon completion of the movie, answer the following questions in your own opinion :

1. Do you consider the practices observed in the film necessary in order to maintain or elevate the health of the general population via the final products provided?

2. Would you be able to perform these actions yourself if you were not paying someone else to do it for you? If you do not purchase meat from conventional locations or at all, briefly describe how you obtain the nutrients typically provided by consuming animal flesh.

3. What scene or fact bothered you most in the film, and why? Be sure to state the time stamp of the actual segment for verification.

4. What is one effect you believe will occur physiologically when a person consumes animals that have been treated in this manner, especially for a prolonged period of time? Provide a citation  for the hypothesis.

5. If you currently consume animal flesh from conventional locations, will you still consider eating food from a conventional food supplier after watching this film? Why or why not? If you do not currently consume animal flesh, do you feel that the agenda on the film demonstrate an accurate or skewed view of how most farming operations process animal flesh? Why do you feel this way?

Explain how the foods you consume are contributing positively or negatively to your diet and health, highlighting at least 2 specific examples. Demonstrate your understanding of the connection between your chosen food and resulting health consequences.

You will need to select each nutrient separately and show a different report for each nutrient. You may look at these reports if that helps you to get a better overall visual.
Examine the carbohydrate content from the reports.

Compare your actual intake to the recommended intake. Compare your findings with the recommendations in your textbook. Note areas in which your carbohydrate consumption is adequate and deficient. Once you examine the reports, complete the Personal Diet Analysis: Carbohydrates Template.
In addition to submitting the Personal Diet Analysis: Carbohydrates Template, use the following bolded headings to guide your answers to the questions below:
1. Explain how the foods you consume are contributing positively or negatively to your diet and health, highlighting at least 2 specific examples. Demonstrate your understanding of the connection between your chosen food and resulting health consequences.
2. Discuss the likelihood and ease of actually making the suggested changes noted in the above table. Explain your answer. If you don’t need to make changes because you met the requirements, be sure you completely filled out the table above and discuss here what you are doing right to meet your nutritional needs.
As you complete this assignment, consider fiber, sugar, complex carbohydrates, nutrient density, and calories in your discussion. This is your opportunity to demonstrate your mastery of the subject matter. General broad answers do not earn as many points as specific examples. Multiple, specific, and applicable suggestions for improvement help demonstrate your mastery of the material and your understanding of how to manipulate a diet.
Be sure to use one of the textbooks and at least one other scholarly journal to support your answers.  In addition to the assigned reading, you may use any of the Appendices in the back of the textbook for ideas.

Why is it considered ideal in this case? Is there an alternative lab test? What are the limitations of using only the alternative test?

The use of a biochemical test is a great way to obtain objective results when testing for a possible nutrient deficiency, toxicity or a nutrient-disease related medical conditions. This unit’s reading may be helpful to address these topics; specifically: Deen, D., & Hark, L.. The Complete Guide to Nutrition in Primary Care. Malden, Mass: Wiley-Blackwell.

Choose ONE of the below biochemical tests OR conditions that a biochemical test is used forConsidering your chosen biochemical test or condition, answer the following questions:

A. suspected pre-diabetes or type 2 diabetes

What is an ideal lab test to use in this situation?

What is it a measure of?

Why is it considered ideal in this case?

Is there an alternative lab test? What are the limitations of using only the alternative test?

What is the normal/healthy lab value range for this lab test?

B. serum ferritin

What is the normal/healthy lab range for ferritin?

What is this lab test commonly used to detect or rule out?

Why is it considered to be such a specified lab test to identify this condition?

What are some “typical” causes that may contribute to a low or high range?

What are alternative lab tests that can be used?

Describe the characteristics of a healthy diet and provide supporting examples.

Factors affecting nutritional intake

The food choices that people make are influenced by a variety of factors. Factor-categories include, but are not limited to, environmental cues, socioeconomic realities, cultural/religious beliefs, and the availability of foods in the community.

In a 3-page paper, written in APA format using proper spelling/grammar, address the following:

1.) Explain what nutrition is and why it is important.
2.) Describe the characteristics of a healthy diet and provide supporting examples.
3.) Identify at least two (2) factors that can impact a person’s food choices and provide a specific example for each.
4.) Research a culture where specific food restrictions are dictated and address the following:
a) Describe the restrictions.
b) Explain how the restrictions could make it difficult for an individual to achieve a healthy diet.
c) What dietary alternatives could be incorporated to overcome the dietary restrictions?
5.) Cite at least 3 credible references and present the resources in APA format on the References page.

Write a nutritional self-assessment paper in APA format. In your paper, you will analyze nutrient intake for each macro and micronutrient, develop an evidence-based diet plan and goals to improve your diet. Follow guidelines carefully.

Food Diary Analysis

Maintaining your diary:

You will use the MyFitnessPal food diary app to record everything that goes into your digestive system over the course of three days. Record everything you eat and drink and record the name and dosage of any medications that you take, including vitamins, minerals, and herbal supplements.
It is preferable to record your food intake for at least one non-school day or one non-weekday . This way, you will see how you are eating habits change with your schedule.
It is important that you take time each day to record your food, drink, and drug intake rather than relying on your memory. An honest, detailed diary will help you gain a better understanding of yourself personally and professionally.
Take screenshots of your MyFitnessPal food diary for the three days to include in your analysis paper.

2. Find your Recommended Dietary Allowance for each of the macro and micronutrients identified in the guidelines.

3. Write a nutritional self-assessment paper in APA format. In your paper, you will analyze nutrient intake for each macro and micronutrient, develop an evidence-based diet plan and goals to improve your diet. Follow guidelines carefully.

4. Your paper should be a minimum of 4 pages long excluding title page, reference page and screenshots.

5. Use APA formatting.
