How do you think encounters and relationships between processes of decolonization, the social work profession, and you (as a person) have been shaped by the themes you have chosen?

Integration Project

This assignment is designed to give you free rein to respond to the class materials and themes in a way you feel is appropriate. The only rule is that you are also expected to ensure a thorough capture of how the material you outline impacts both your personal and professional life. In other words, you must clearly demonstrate that you have been thinking about lectures, assigned readings, films, and class discussions beyond the surface level, examining their fundamental and philosophical meanings.

First, students will choose one to two of the following themes of the course as a foundation for their project. The course themes are: Implicating Self, Anti-oppression, Anti-Racism, and Anti-Black Racism, Anti-Sanism, 2SLGBTQ+ Communities, Practice with Individuals and Groups, Activists and Activism, and the Importance of Resistance. Please note that the themes are not mutually exclusive and can intersect with each other.

Secondly, using the chosen theme(s) of the course, students will use the following question to guide their thinking for their project:

How do you think encounters and relationships between processes of decolonization, the social work profession, and you (as a person) have been shaped by the themes you have chosen?

Then, students will choose one of the following methods for their project:

1. Write a traditional research essay (1500–2000 words or 6-8 double spaced pages maximum) with references to a minimum of 5 course readings or resources.

2. A creative writing piece. For example, a poem or short story. Make sure the creative writing piece is clearly linked to the course material. Unrelated creative writing will be returned unmarked.

3. A visual work. Respond by interpreting an image(s) visually (ie. drawing pictures, beading, sculpting, and creating games, websites, or interactive pieces). Make sure the medium is appropriate to the message(s) you wish to convey. In the written explanation of the response, be sure to talk about the form as well as your content.

How will you change, refine,or focus your research question based on your exploration of the literature?

Assignment: Writing the Literature Review

The best literature reviews are not individual summaries of articles; rather, they are a combined synthesis. In scholarly writing, to synthesize means to bring various ideas and pieces of information together. In this “bringing together,” new comparisons are drawn and new meanings derived. So, even though you are reporting on information in four different articles, you are also molding that information into a new and unique story you are telling about the research topic.

In this Assignment, you write a short literature review on your research topic, keeping the principle of synthesis in mind.

To Prepare:

Review the annotated outline you submitted last week (Have provided you the annotated outline that you did on last week it has been attached as well. Hope that helps)

Write a 2-page literature review based on your annotated outline.

Submit a 2-page literature review demonstrating what is known about your topic and any identified gaps. The literature review must include at least four of the peer-reviewed research articles you found.

At the end of your literature review, write 1 to 2 paragraphs answering the following question:

How will you change, refine,or focus your research question based on your exploration of the literature? Provide justification.

Make sure to include appropriate APA citations and a reference list.

What is the school’s role in preventing and responding to suicide in the school systems?

Literature Review II / Developing the Research Hypothesis

Discussion: The Research Hypothesis

The research hypothesis typically states the anticipated relationship between variables in a quantitative study. Oftentimes, these variables are labeled as dependent and independent, with the independent variable meaning the intervention, treatment, or other change that is introduced. The researcher then wishes to measure the impact of that change on the dependent variable.

Why might it be important for a researcher to predict the findings and show the variables’ expected relationship in this manner? What purpose does the hypothesis serve? In this Discussion, you answer these questions and generate a hypothesis for your own proposed study.

To Prepare:

Review the Learning Resources on the research hypothesis and its purpose.

Consider the problem you have identified, the research question, and your initial reading of the peer-reviewed research articles. Based on these, generate a research hypothesis.

Note: If your research question is qualitative, for the purposes of this Discussion, consider how you would change the question to use a quantitative approach. Then develop a hypothesis that would be generated from that question.

Post your description of the hypothesis’s function in the research process. Then, share the hypothesis you have generated for your research question. Identify the independent and dependent variables in your hypothesis.

Note: If your research question is qualitative, for the purposes of this Discussion, consider how you would change the question to use a quantitative approach. Then develop a hypothesis that would be generated from that question.

This is the research questions that present.

To Prepare:

Review the Learning Resources on identifying themes in the literature and on creating an annotated outline.

Revisit the six peer-reviewed research articles you have gathered on your topic.

While reading, determine common themes and subthemes across at least four of the articles. Use these themes to organize an outline for the literature review you will submit next week.

Submit a 1-page annotated outline that includes thematic headings you have drawn from the literature on your topic. The outline must include at least four of the peer-reviewed research articles you found. Make sure to include appropriate APA citations and a reference list.

Assignment: Themes in the Literature

When conducting a literature review on a given topic, researchers look for places where the articles overlap and converge. Perhaps several studies focus on the same segment of the population or garnered similar results on a practice approach.

These areas of overlap then become the themes you will address in your literature review. These themes can even provide the topical structure for the review itself, becoming headings to organize your written analysis. The first step after you have gathered your articles, then, is to re-read the articles and jot down main themes and subthemes you see emerging. What do you notice?
